Hey folks!  I have a little show coming up at Good Karma in San Jose.  Stop by if you're in the area. :)  I'm working on a bunch of new paintings as well as a sculpture installation.

opening reception: September 2nd 7-10 pm
the show will be on display from Sept 2nd-24th
37 South First St., San Jose, CA 95113 (408) 294-2694 ‎

The Peculiar Pageant
new paintings and installation by Lacey Bryant

Theatrically posed and surrounded by lush, illusory environments, the subjects of Lacey's newest works are like pictures in a storybook written in an unknown language.  The images are somewhat familiar but certain elements remains foreign.  Like a hazy dream of an imagined childhood long forgotten, the images strive to make you feel as if you just might have been there once, maybe.  As is common in Lacey's work, there is a subtle tension between beautiful and unsettling elements.  This contrast creates a sense of mystery and invites the viewer to construct their own interpretation of the scenes.  In the safety of a world poised between reality and imagination where common symbols mingle with strange ones, Lacey's characters expose their fears, doubts, despairs and longings.
  • Listening to: computer humming & shower dripping
  • Reading: greek myths
  • Playing: with clay :)
  • Eating: greek honey yogurt

Lacey Bryant
United States
Lacey is a San Jose artist who paints weird things. She works in a variety of media, oil and acrylic paints being her favorites. She paints primarily on wood surfaces, often utilizing found wood for the unique textures and history they offer. Her subjects are often dreamlike, inhabiting a realm of strange, nostalgic sweetness with undercurrents of darkness and mystery. Each piece is a bit of the middle of a story for the viewer to interpret in their own way. Contrasting cute with creepy, familiar with odd, Lacey sets out to quietly captivate and unnerve her viewers through the underlying tension of her work.
Lacey has shown work all over California, as well as Tempe, Arizona; Atlanta, Georgia; Brooklyn, NY; Chaing-Mai, Thailand among other places. She has an ongoing display of work at KALEID Gallery in San Jose where she keeps her studio. Because she loves to paint really big things as well, she occasionally paints murals, sets and backdrops for various theatres and for Great America Theme Park's stage shows and haunted houses. Unable to sit still, she has accumulated a wide array of strange skills. She is a guerrilla knitter, a repository of useless information, a tree climber, a belly dancer, a sculptor, a snorkeler, a former voice actor, a from-scratch baker, a maker of silly clay-mation shorts, a collector of succulents and cacti, graphic designer, and many other unrelated things.

Please give me a second grace. Please give me a second face.
I've fallen far down, the first time around, now I just sit on the ground in your way.

Hey

we haven't seen you over at #LittleBelovedOnes for some time. Why not submit an image or suggest a fav?

Please keep in mind our activity rule of being active at least once in 2 month. If there is something currently keeping you from dA let me know and I can give you more time though.

I have a feeling that rule is going to keep being a problem for me. I'm a very active painter and have a very small amount of time to play online. I'll try my best, but if you would prefer not to have me in the group if I'm not active enough, then I understand. I haven't painted anything featuring children recently but I'll try to post right away next time I do, hopefully it won't be too late for me!
